Respected sirs:

 

Since the note we recently sent to an agency located in this capital, at the service of a department of the United States of North America, refers to you in some of its paragraphs, we have considered it correct to provide you with its content. We have omitted only some paragraphs, for reasons which we beg you to try to understand.

Dear Sir:

 

We beg you to provide a copy of this letter to your superiors, although we do not doubt you would do so anyway. We are referring, of course, to your superiors, not of that agency as a commercial firm but to ................

 

The object that leads us to address that delegation is to inform you that we are aware of a mission entrusted to you under the coded designation “RED CASTLE 883”.

 

In earlier notes sent to the departments............... and …………of the headquarters in Washington, as well as in the note sent on 2 December 1969 to your US diplomatic representation in Australia, my compatriots set out our stance regarding the investigation of which we are the object on the part of the federal authorities of your country.

 

This note is intended as a warning that will clarify in some way your activities in this respect in Spain.

 

You can see from it that our own information is also quite extensive. We would regret it if you attributed it to leaks from our own “agents” in your section, or to non-existent shortcomings of zeal in your subordinates. We would likewise regret it if this revelation on our part of the true functions of that Agency in the capital of Spain forced your superiors to bring about substantial changes in its location and organisation. Rest assured that, apart from this one which concerns us, your other activities are practically unknown to us.

 

I set out below the clarifications I referred to.

 

1st. Even in the full conviction that you will not accept our version either, we repeat to you that we form a small group of persons from another inhabited planet, different from Earth. That at present we are accidentally distributed in different nations, carrying out a mission whose strict objective is the analytical study of its geological constitution, its biosphere and atmosphere, as well as the ethnology, History and present culture of the humanity that peoples Earth. Although we follow attentively the geopolitical evolution of your social structures, you will not be able to prove that, apart from these prospective functions, we carry out any activity of political ideological ferment among your fellow men, or channel crypto-military information to third powers.

 

We regret that you must consider this declaration “derisory or insane”. We invite you to reflect that, if it were not true, it would be ridiculous (“childish”) to mask ourselves with an identity so implausible to you.

 

On the other hand, in view of our methods and the planning of our protection system, we trust that the good judgement of the technicians in Washington will find it very difficult to classify us as insane, a version which, on the other hand, if accepted, would not bother us in the least and would at least serve to make you leave us in peace.

 

2nd. I hasten to suggest to you that the investigation of the Hotel……… (BILBAO, SPAIN) must prove useless to you. Indeed, my two compatriots resided there during those dates under these assumed names. They, although this statement may make you smile, but it is true, are not even on this planet, and I suspect with good reason that, apart from those signatures you have found, they left no proofs that would be valuable to you.

 

3rd. In the card headed by the designation:

contained in your files, apart from other inaccuracies, you have noted that he “received telephone calls from our agents... “

 

We are sorry to inform you that no compatriot of mine, nor I myself, have ever spoken with this respectable Spanish citizen.

 

4th. We do not believe that your investigations into our stay in Albacete will at present provide you with clarifying leads to our situation.

 

Indeed we “resided” clandestinely in the home (already demolished, as you have been able to verify) of that kind Spanish lady Da Margarita Ruiz de Lihory in Calle Mayor (at that time No. 58), who facilitated our study of some of her animals, of which she was so fond. When on 2 February 1954 the situation became untenable for my compatriots, owing to the inevitable comments of the neighbours, they left what was my brothers' first residence in this country since their arrival from France.

 

We do not advise you to investigate the case through the close relatives who have survived this lady, since they know nothing or very little of our existence.

 

5th. The Catholic priest Enrique López Guerrero, resident in MAIRENA DEL ALCOR (SEVILLE), who has so attracted your attention, has had no more relationship with us than a few letters. When he published those reports we had not even checked the identity of that subject of Spanish nationality.

7th. We believe you have suffered an explicable error attributable, in our judgement, to the fact that your interception service has proved defective.

 

The young Mr ………………………… whose movements you have carefully monitored during his present journey to LONDON does indeed belong to this group of persons resident in Madrid interested in our testimony. but the reason for his accidental stay in that capital was not the one you suspect. It is a circumstantial coincidence unrelated to the references that have leaked through to you.

 

I believe that by now you will have verified that this small nucleus of persons of Spanish nationality maintains with us only mere friendly ties, for they do not even know us personally. Not even all of them fully accept the plausibility of our identity, and the latter is something which you, sir, by virtue of your own judgements, will be able to understand.

 

You will be able to judge the purity of intention of these gentlemen by the ease with which your agents have obtained information through them without their noticing, but you are intelligent and at least on this point I trust we shall agree. I add that, on the other hand, you will obtain few data usable for our identification from these correspondents of ours. Believe me, we are sorry about that.

 

8th. We would truly be sorry if WISHAM, CARL H. Virgen del Sagrario No. 34 MADRID SPAIN were to be troubled through our involuntary fault. We are totally unaware of his identity and have never had relations of any kind with such a reference. We greatly fear that here too you have made an error.

This, gentlemen, is the text of the note sent. We would be very grateful if you would hand this letter to Mr DIONISIO GARRIDO BUENDIA for safekeeping. We beg you to provide promptly a copy of it to your brothers in BARCELONA and SEVILLE. In this case, for obvious reasons, without the precautions we urged on you some days ago for the rest of the correspondence.
