Honourable friends of EARTH in Spain
For a certain number of months you have been able to observe the absolute lack of news from us.
It would sadden us to find that such an omission might be interpreted as a disparaging attitude on our part. On the contrary, all this is due to a fully planned strategy induced by present circumstances.
Some of your brothers, on becoming aware of the presence of our group among you and identifying themselves to a certain degree with our mental structures, have generated an excessive emotional enthusiasm, which we are the first to regret.
We believe you have not carefully gauged the risk that such an attitude involves.
We have never postulated that you should accept our existence with a high probabilistic coefficient.
On the contrary, if your brothers review all the events that have marked the history of our relations with you, they will find that our assertion has a real basis: that we programmed these contacts taking very special care not to offer you verifiable proofs of our existence. But this seems to involve a serious contradiction; for offering you on the one hand a unilateral version of our existence while at the same time denying you access to its verification is not justified within bivalent logical bases, not even by alluding to the need to accept certain truths as Faith.
But if you review our writings you will realise that we gave a valid answer to these doubts. We indicated to you that beings like you, immersed in a specific social network, must not shirk their obligations towards it.
Thus, it will not be disturbing for you to speculate, with the necessary reservations, about a hypothesis that includes the possibility of our existence on EARTH
But if we encouraged the evolution of that speculation so that it reached the stage of certainty, that would provoke, though you may not believe it, a chain of psychosomatic reactions with serious consequences for your brothers involved.
It is not that we intend, with a paternalistic attitude towards you, to protect you from a danger. It is that, if we did not act in this way, our brothers would infringe a whole sequence of moral values.
When we timidly began the first contacts with individuals and communities of EARTH, my brothers of OUMMO were unaware of these very serious aspects which we set out today. It has taken those letters, those mailings of documents and communications at group level, and the monitoring of your reactions for us to realise their disturbing importance.
If you were now to suggest that it would have been more logical to adopt either of these options: To keep silent from the first moment about our arrival from OUMMO, or else, once the informative links had begun, to provide you with conclusive proofs of our assertions, we must answer that when we began the process we were unaware of its alienating implications for you. As any systems engineer among your brothers will understand, self-correction in the course of the process imposed new configurations on our conduct. If these relations had as their initial object not only the involuntary transfer from you of information about the star EARTH, but also the sounding out of the future possibility of more open relations, the test finally provided us with the criteria that will govern our tactics towards you until we leave EARTH definitively in a more or less distant future.
We know, then, friends of Spain, your concerns, your doubts, your feeling of frustration and your natural distrust. This inevitable confusion must be imputed to us, but we beg you not to interpret it as a Machiavellian stance aimed at manipulating you as if you were mere puppets or guinea pigs in our experiments. That would be unjust and undoubtedly without real basis. For if such an experiment on a micro-social scale has existed, the motives were much purer than the interpretation of them might lead one to suspect. We regret that in certain respects the results have been disheartening.
The geosocial situation through which EARTH is passing, which we need not describe as critical, since you are aware of it, is not the most suitable for creating new forms of anxiety for you by involving you in our affairs. Do not regard this as a mere opinion. We have certainty regarding the risks that other forms of conduct on the part of my brothers would entail.
We would prefer you to forget us, to describe these very singular episodes as one more fiction, even at the risk of provoking the inevitable disenchantment of some brothers of EARTH. But that is for you to decide, friends of Spain. Analyse this letter, and we invite you to meet to study a decision. In view of our attitude: Do you think it preferable to break off definitively between you and our group? Or do you judge, on the contrary, that it would be interesting to continue receiving our news sporadically and without proofs of our assertions being provided?
We beg you to appoint a spokesman, if possible one who can travel to London to make telephone contact with us (this cannot be possible in Spain). He must necessarily be a director and representative member of either of the two legal associations we consider seriously reliable in Spain: the Centro de Estudios Interplanetarios of Barcelona and ERIDANI of Madrid. The contact would take place between mid-August and the end of October, although perhaps in due course such a long journey may not be necessary. Let us know by sending a copy of this letter to M. Antonio Ribera.
We congratulate all of you on the interest you have shown in these past months. We judge interesting the proposal of Mr Domínguez and Mr Jordán regarding the detailed analysis of our texts. We would, however, have wished for more prudence on the part of Messrs Ribera and Jordán in their conversations about us with some of their brothers, but we understand that the ambiguity surrounding our case gives rise to a dynamic stance on the part of some intelligent brothers of yours. Do not regard this, then, as a reproach, but as an allusion to the risks we pointed out above in the event that what concerns us spreads in an uncontrolled way to other circles. We would like you to agree on which of the two existing associations we have mentioned we should address, should you agree on a renewal of contacts with us.
We would be pleased if you held a general meeting of your interested brothers, inviting everyone without discrimination. If, on the contrary, it were agreed to cancel all oral and written communication, you will be free to publish or circulate our writings, but we warn you that this is extremely counterproductive. Our wish is that you avoid such circulation if possible.
We send you our respects.
