Throughout our reports we have been obliged to use, interchangeably, moduli and units both of the Planet EARTH and of our Planet UMMO. These reports sent to Professor SESMA MANZANO have rarely been of a TECHNICAL nature, but rather POPULARIZING. For this reason the range of magnitudes and units used has been restricted, limited to the best known ones of TIME, MASS, LENGTH... Since we judge that, for those not versed in PHYSICS, PSYCHOBIOLOGY, COSMOLOGY..., the value, let us say, of the MAGNETIC FIELD STRENGTH in OOXAII will be of very little use in gaining a reliable picture of the culture of UMMO.

In the course of our studies carried out on EARTH we have been assimilating new expressions, commonplace for you though surprising for us, and acquiring new habits common to yours, you earthlings. It is not unusual for us, when speaking among ourselves phonically or telepathically, to catch ourselves inadvertently using some English or Spanish adjective or other, or employing the unit MINUTE or METRE instead of UIW or ENMOO.

For example, the few of us who live in SPAIN, and who incidentally spend almost all our time in your marvellous Museums and your magnificent antique shops, use the expression TON to represent not ONE THOUSAND KILOGRAMS but ONE THOUSAND DUUO (one DUUO is equivalent to 1.7333 kilograms MASS).

We point this out to warn you that the UNIT: TON logically does not exist on UMMO. So when in one of our reports we tell you that the MASS of UMMO is, for example, 5, 4. 1021 TONS, make the corresponding conversion. In this case it would come to:

MASS OF THE PLANET UMMO 9, 36. 1024 Kilograms of EARTH MASS

We must give you the same warnings when we refer to DAYS or YEARS. It is necessary to clear up any misunderstanding that may arise with these words. On UMMO we use the phoneme XI or SI (it is difficult to find the appropriate letters), which means (CYCLE, ROTATION or REVOLUTION) and has a double meaning. That is to say, it is what you call a HOMOPHONE. With the word "XI" or "CSI" we express both the rotation of UMMO on its axis (ONE DAY) and the revolution of, let us say, a WHEEL.

One ("XI") = 600, 0117 (Approximately six hundred UIW)

One "XI" (DAY of UMMO) is therefore equivalent to about 1855.2 minutes, that is, about 30.92 HOURS of EARTH.

On UMMO we divide the "CSI" (DAY) into UIW (1 Uiw = 3.092 minutes), and there are no divisions equivalent to HOURS.

With the phoneme "XEE" we express the EIGHTEENTH part of the time interval that the planet UMMO takes to complete a full cycle moving in its ORBIT around the star IUMMA (called by you, judging by the comparisons we have made in your astronomical tables, WOLF 424). We are not, however, certain that it is this same star since, although the characteristics and location recorded by some Earth observatories coincide surprisingly with our data, serious discrepancies are observed in other tables for the star WOLF 424 (see data from the YERKES observatory recording WOLF 424 as a dwarf star near the constellation of Virgo).

To date we have not had access to terrestrial observatories to compare their records with our tabulations of coordinates.

You cannot imagine how difficult it is to compare and verify the identification of the stars recorded by you and by us. The least of it is that, since we occupy another place in the galaxy, the perspective and relative coordinates naturally change, for there are formulae for the conversion and translation of axes that make the task easier.

The serious thing is that the distances you have estimated for many stars, based on estimation techniques, are imprecise, so that, with errors greater than 12%, confusing us with other nearby stars, exact identification becomes impossible.

In many cases further differences are observed in the figures you have recorded in different tables corresponding to as many observatories. In such cases, although we evaluate a new figure by calculating a statistical mean, assigning a reliability coefficient or factor to each observatory, the results are poor and sterile.

The concept of "YEAR" has a different meaning for us than for you, since it is in fact a fraction of UMMO's orbital period.

One YEAR of UMMO ("XEE") = 1 : 18 orbital period.

All these considerations may perhaps seem long-winded and unnecessary to Professor Sesma Manzano, if he judges descriptions of our world more important than scientific-technical concepts. But do not forget that a mathematical error, a misinterpreted conversion of physical units, may discredit you in the eyes of the experts. In that case you would have no right to claim credit from them. The scepticism of your educated readers would be wholly justified, since no one can be obliged to accept testimonies resting on contradictions or on statements lacking a minimum of scientific objectivity. We are understanding in this respect. We cannot demand to be believed without providing conclusive proof. And if, on top of that, our few correspondents were to make mistakes!

For our part, and in the present phase of our stay on EARTH, we have no great interest in making ourselves officially known, since that would cause serious disruptions to our plan of analysis and study of terrestrial culture, and we even fear reactions among the masses, who are still ill-prepared for it.
