Sir:
Allow me to introduce myself, even though this may produce a reaction of surprise and even a logical dose of incredulity on your part. My name, in phonetic transcription for you, is EIDOUAA AA 42, son of EIMEII 12, from a cold star called UMMO. You can verify the suitability of my identity through our seal, whose authenticity may perhaps be vouched for by your Spanish brother Rafael Farriols Calvo, resident in Barcelona. We know that apocryphal letters attributed to my brothers have circulated in several countries, and you will undoubtedly prefer to verify that this text has a genuine origin.
My brothers and I address you because news had reached us of the high degree of reliability you kindly grant to the data about our existence. It is true that such an attitude is more emotional than rational, for my brothers took care not to provide excessive objective proofs of our identity and origin. We needed the human scepticism of Earth in order to be able to live among you, but we were surprised to find how a few brothers of yours in Yugoslavia, Australia, France, Spain, Canada and other nations, letting themselves be carried away by affective impulses, believed in us without any arguments of a scientific order.
Naturally this was flattering for those of my brothers who were then on Earth, and there began at once a copious unilateral correspondence which comprised an extensive dossier of reports numbering more than six thousand seven hundred in several languages. We set as our only condition that the small groups attached to us in these countries should not get in touch with those of another nationality, and that the documents should not reach the terrestrial social network, for fear that this would involve a publicity boom that would oblige us to leave your cold star. In part this has been complied with, although today the risk for us is almost nil in view of the inevitable leaks that have occurred. You yourself have publicly commented on data about our existence, and you were not bound to mental reserve by any commitment.
My brothers have been away from your cold star for a long interval of time. We returned to Earth in an expedition in October, landing in Denmark. A small expedition under my orders is in the centre of Spain; my other brothers are at present in Denmark, England, Nepal and Canada. For me personally this is the second time I have been among you. I studied the English, Spanish and German languages and I have been specialised in Hispanic culture and thought. My profession on Ummo is linked to the analysis of biochemical systems for the synthesis of food. Specifically, my speciality consists in the coding, in what you call polynucleotides, of bases for the genesis of organisms producing protein chains. At present I am studying the evolution of Spanish society in its econometric facets, and I am dictating this letter to a brother of yours in the country, who was already known to the expeditionaries who preceded me. This brother of yours is an admirer of ours and has rendered us valuable services.
We wish to answer some questions raised by your brothers over this time. Thus, they wondered about the reason for our silence. In the first place this was due to our absence from Earth, but before that there were considerations of another level. Contrary to our request for secrecy, photocopies of our documents leaked to other circles, and this involved a risk for my brothers who were then here. Especially in Spain this incontinence became more acute than in other countries, whose brothers of yours were more prudent and cautious. It was necessary to set off our self-defence structures, consisting in putting into circulation arguments against our real existence, which we already had prepared for such an emergency.
Years before, my brothers had spread, together with the arguments in favour of the thesis of the ummiaoo identity, false proofs that might serve us as cover against a high gradient of credulity on the part of the social network of Earth. I will try to explain this to you more explicitly, Mr Luis Jiménez Marhuenda.
Our mission on Earth is merely one of analysis and study. We came to Spain (our first landing was at a site in France), as to other countries, wishing to know the geological structure, orogenic movements, biosphere, the social structure of humans and their extensive History and evolution, the conditions of the atmosphere and the structures of the main star and of other cold Stars, including another planet located beyond Pluto at 7898 kilometres (mean distance to its Sun)
Our forms of thought (Philosophy) Forbid us to interfere in your social evolution. Any transcendent contribution of our culture to you that goes beyond simple information about our science and customs would naturally imply an interference in that evolution which, from our deontological perspective, is harmful. It would not be possible, for example, to offer you a solution to the genesis of atypical (cancerous) tissues, for example, without this implying providing you with technological data which the men of Earth, still lacking in ethical training in certain social strata, might use for purposes in no way linked to medicine but perhaps to destruction. Even on the philosophical plane, a graft onto your schools of thought from our Ontology would vitiate the normal evolution of human-terrestrial Metaphysics. All transfer of culture causes irreparable damage to the normal laws of evolution in a planetary social network.
I remember that when my brothers who preceded me in their journeys to this Earth began to mingle among you, taking advantage of the fact that their anatomical configuration was very similar to yours (This happens by evolutionary law on planetoids of similar structure and dimensions), they feared to make themselves known as coming from the star UMMO. Their fear was exaggerated. A better knowledge of the terrestrial human psyche dissuaded them on that point. Timidly at first and more freely later, they began contacts with some scientists, to whom they provided certain data that could not cause harm, and they also chose in various countries a selection of brothers of yours, citizens of average cultural, social and economic standard, but who had a distinctive feature in common. They were fond of the UFO subject, and that hobby brought them spiritually closer to us in a certain way. My brothers of those expeditions told me that at first they did not expect to be believed very much. They expected, on the contrary, that they would keep the reports as a mere curiosity coming from some mentally disturbed person, so that if in the future our hierarchy chose a formal contact with the governments of Earth (At that time such a possibility was seriously contemplated by my leading brothers), those documents would form the proto-history of such relations with the humans of Earth.
At that time there was on Earth, as head of the expedition, YU 1, a sister of mine (today sadly deceased in an accident), an intelligent woman who knew better than anyone how to understand your psyche, and who understood that the risk was minimal, as opposed to WIIBEAA 43 son of WIIBEAA 40, who emphatically refused to establish any contact. My sister's theses prevailed at that time. At first your reactions seemed to prove the latter right. A large number of correspondents believed in us and reached a degree of mythification of our humanity bordering on the dangerous from the point of view of mental hygiene and balance. There was a risk that the news would spread, creating turbulent social currents about beings from another cold Star. In fact the news about UEUA OEEMM (that is what we call UFOs) was giving rise to a great psychosis on a world scale on your Earth, and we did not want to add fuel to the fire, as you say in Spain. How could we live among you unnoticed if rumours were circulating about our appearance? It was dangerous to provide you with excessive proofs of our real existence. Then a strategy was conceived aimed at providing false data together with genuine data, nobly warning you in our reports that we were operating in this way, and that your brothers should moderate their faith in us. This, Mr Luis Jiménez, may seem singular and strange to you. If you analyse the circumstances impartially, it is not at all. Your brothers had become excellent friends of ours. But a genuine friendship entails a protective attitude on our part. You are of EARTH. You owe yourselves spiritually to your culture, History and brothers; we can never alienate that; to turn you into our disciples would have been something unacceptable to our principles. Could we have avoided it if we had offered you unquestionable proof of our existence? Even so, some felt seduced by our news. Ummo dangerously became the ideal goal of their lives, and thereby they posed us a difficult problem of conscience.
New complications arose years later. An intelligence agency of the U.S.A. happened by chance to learn of the existence of the UMMO group. As a logical consequence of rational approaches, they interpreted that we constituted an organisation under the orders of another power, and began a harassment that was troublesome for our brothers. It is true that these had the means to evade them, despite the annoyance of the situation. But that further exacerbated their harassment and interest. They even came to exercise surveillance over peaceful Canadians, Englishmen and Spaniards who received our letters, as if they were our accomplices!
This was more than we wished. We could not allow men of Earth to suffer through our fault the inhuman encirclement of their own brothers, and we had to limit our contacts.
Meanwhile the hierarchies of the US agency wondered, intrigued, why, “we being” an espionage group (naturally they could never prove for which country), we masked ourselves by passing ourselves off as extraterrestrials (a paradox which, logically, is unsolvable if the question is posed with rational patterns).
A critical moment arose when, precisely in Spain, my brothers found no better ally than a poor lady, a sister of yours, resident in Albacete, with a certain degree of mental derangement (which apparently constituted an excellent cover and later turned out not to be so) The protection of this lady (who never came to know that we were from UMMO!) led my brothers into countless misadventures. A servant of hers spread among certain circles of the town the story that we lived in the cellars and, to crown our misfortunes, some viral preparations, whose culture my brothers jealously guarded, suffered through her fault an infectious spread that could have brought upon the humanity of Earth (through our fault) terribly catastrophic consequences. This turned into an outlandish operation by my brothers which came to leap onto the pages of the media of the time.
The second critical moment arose when we learned of the sinister operation that the North American leaders were preparing. It was after the famous secret report which explained how the Soviet Union was at that moment at a marked level of logistic inferiority with respect to the United States. Some experts were of the opinion that it was the right moment to unleash a lightning nuclear offensive and dismantle once and for all the might of the USSR. My brothers learned of that secret meeting at which President Nixon reluctantly gave the green light to the project. We were terrified. The first decision taken was to take our craft and leave the Cold Star. Then the plan was reconsidered. Our bases were safe enough to withstand a conflagration of that kind, but a problem of conscience arose for us. How could we abandon our friends on Earth? We decided, despite the risk involved, to offer at last an objective proof of our existence, to offer our underground bases in various countries so that they might take refuge in them. There was no attack, but President Nixon, as you know, gave an atomic alert on the date we announced, and with that we offered a highly suspicious proof that we were “more” than we wished to appear... The UMMO myth then became unbearable for us. Your brothers did not know how to keep reserve about our existence and we were obliged to cease contacts in France and Spain.
This, sir, is the summary of our relations with you. I earnestly ask you, Mr Luis Jiménez Marhuenda, to pass on our news, as a fraternal greeting, to the following persons, Spanish brothers of yours who do not forget us. I give you the address of one of them so that through him my missive may reach them
Spanish gentlemen: DIONISIO GARRIDO BUENDIA Calle Huesca 29 - 4ºD (MADRID) RAFAEL FARRIOLS CALVO, JUAN DOMINGUEZ MONTES. FRANCO MUELA PEDRADA, JOAQUIN MARTINEZ ANDRES, ENRIQUE VILLAGRASA NOVOA, ANGEL DEL CAMPO FRANCES, ALICIA ARAUJO, FERNANDO JIMENEZ DEL OSO, ANTONIO RIBERA JORDA, ENRIQUE LOPEZ GUERRERO, JORGE BARRENECHEA, ALBERTO BORRAS GABARRO, HILTRUD NORDLIN FRANZ, FEDERICO GUIBERNAU.
This list would be endless if I included other brothers of yours who are in our spirit. To them our moved gratitude and hope. But I hope we shall not be disappointed in your conveying our special greetings in some way, especially to those named.
And receive at the same time our embrace of peace and respect. We learned of you because, in the town where you live, you spoke approvingly of our existence and that rumour reached our hearing. Your open and courageous mind deserves our respectful consideration. Our noble greetings to your noble wife and to those who are dear to you. Extend our greetings to the humans of Earth.
Sir. I ask you to tell your Brother ENRIQUE LOPEZ GUERRERO, who lives as a priest in MAIRENA DEL ALCOR (SEVILLE), that we have seen his text in which he kindly mentions and transcribes our reports. It is true that his gesture, made years ago, would have harmed us. Today this risk is almost practically non-existent, for we have proved that it does not generate disturbances in the social network. Nobody outside a small segment of the population will be willing to believe in our existence, and that is good for the social network.
Likewise tell your brother ANTONIO ALBADALEJO of (MURCIA) that we have in mind to write him a brief report.
